Prospectus for:

THE FYLDE COAST EXPLORER

Friday 24th to Monday 27th September 2010

London Euston - Preston

Leyland Vehicle Museum

Lytham, Hawkshead, Hart Breweries

Lancaster Guided Pub Tour

Blackpool Tram Celebrations

Blackpool Illuminations

Lancaster - London

LEYLAND, LYTHAM & LIGHTS

Something for everyone on this tour, and with at least one day for you to use as you wish, you might even fit in a football match, if that is your thing. The 125th anniversary of the trams is a good enough reason to be on the Fylde coast but, as usual, we have included many more attractions for you.

FRIDAY 24 SEPTEMBER 2010

Departure will be from London Euston at 1030 to Preston, due 1238. With your luggage stowed, our private coach will take you the short distance to the Golden Cross Inn, new home of the former Hart Brewery. A light lunch will be taken here. Next we travel south to Leyland for a visit to the fine Commercial Vehicle Museum (as featured recently on TV in “Behind the Scenes at the Museum”) where over 60 buses and lorries are beautifully displayed. En-route to Blackpool lies an unusual GBG pub at Salwick, built from a windmill. We shall stop there for about 45 minutes before continuing to Blackpool and the Savoy Hotel, your base for three nights DB&B. Arrival is planned for about 1730. After dinner, you will be able to enjoy a private tram tour of all the Illuminations. It will pick you up from and drop you outside the hotel, or further in town if preferred.  Beer provided on board!

SATURDAY 25 SEPTEMBER

This is the afternoon for one of the Anniversary tram parades. Full details are still awaited but there will be many trams from other former systems joining the local historic vehicles.

SUNDAY 26 SEPTEMBER

A free day. Plenty of opportunities e.g. a trip to Lytham for the three good pubs there, perhaps some footy or more attention to the trams. A service into Rigby Road depot, a model railway exhibition and historic cars in public service are all possibilities. Blackpool’s own famous attractions are also open to you..

MONDAY 27 SEPTEMBER

After breakfast our coach (with luggage) will depart from the hotel at 0920 and head first to Lytham for a visit to the town’s brewery. Next we head north to the edge of the Lake District and the Hawkshead brewery, where a Visitor Centre, Brewery and Beer Room is open to you. There will also be a brewery chat and options to get inside the operations area. Then we head south to Lancaster and lunch at the Water Witch, on the banks of the Lancaster canal. After lunch and drinks, Lawrence Bland, our local member, will conduct you on a city tour to some favourite pubs for a selection of decent beers. About three hours will be available for this but if this is not your thing, Lancaster holds many sites of interest to the visitor. The coach will retain your luggage until it’s time to head for the station and the 1735 train to London Euston, due 2001, where the tour terminates.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE TOUR PRICE

The estimated cost of the four day/three night tour (excluding rail fare, for, as usual no sensible estimate could be obtained from Virgin (8-12 weeks booking window)) should not exceed £325 twinshare and £340 single occupancy. The final price will include all these items:-
