About Crookham Travel
Crookham Travel is the brain child
of Gerald Daniels (pictured above) and was established in 1977 when real
ale (cask conditioned living beer) was still in short supply. He already
had experience of organising tours for the Coastal Cruising Association,
of which he remains a member. The first Rail Ale Ramble ran from Waterloo
station to Bath and Oxford on the 1st October that year - with 598
passengers! At the time good beer was hard to find in the capital.
Although the selection of beer in the London area has since improved,
there are many interesting and historic breweries, large and small (some
very small), well worth visiting both in Britain and abroad, so this is
what we have continued to do! The days of cheap charter trains taking 400
Ramblers to towns and cities throughout GB are now past but with groups
of a more manageable size we continue to enjoy day tours to new
interesting breweries and pubs.
Explorer Tours enjoy a faithful
following of regulars and newcomers who recognize good value and
interesting itineraries. Why not join them? Departures are usually on
Friday morning, returning Monday evening to maximize the time at
destinations. They can be one of Britain's cities, full of historic
buildings and good pubs, or a stay in the countryside, often closer to a
smaller brewery. Visits are made to (usually) the smaller breweries,
sites of transport interest, steam railways and industrial archaeological
museums. Most costs are included in the price and very good quality
hotels with private facilities are used. If you are not on our mailing
list, do something about it and contact us now, and you will receive
information on future tours.
Crookham Travel tours have a
reputation for attention to detail, comprehensive brochures, good
punctuality and value for money. The Rail Ale Ramble people since 1977,
with over 300 trips and over 30,000 people. Over 500 breweries visited.
